317 Don’t Live in the Past

“‘I remember the devotion of your youth, how as a bride you loved Me and followed Me through the desert, through a land not sown. Israel was holy to the Lord, the first fruits of His harvest; all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,’ declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 2:2-3).

We tend to think of the Children of Israel in the desert as being disobedient, so many times failing to trust You. Yet it seems that You remember only the good things about them with no mention of their sins at that time.

As the sin was confessed and the blood of atonement applied, they were washed away. I remember them no more (Psalm 103:12). Likewise I see where you are at now: either humble and obedient in My service or straying away from Me. Don’t let recollection of your past hinder you. Once your sins are confessed they are gone (1 John 1:9). I see only the blood of atonement shed on the cross for you.

Live in the now with Me. Walk through today with the authority I have given you (Luke 10:19). Imagine if you were in Jeremiah’s situation, facing the inevitability of defeat by Babylon and the destruction of all he knew and loved. You too can have the confidence and certainty that he had in My promises, “‘They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 1:19).
