323 Choose Life

“Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them, they can do no harm, nor can they do any good” (Jeremiah 10:5).

We don’t see too many idols around in our culture and when we do see them anyone with a Judeo-Christian background considers them to be only an interesting artefact, not something to be worshipped. But we are told that anything that becomes more important to us than You is really an idol. I don’t think Jeremiah had this in mind when he said they can do no harm.

You are right. My word through Jeremiah concerned the physical statues that were desecrating the land which were nothing in themselves. But once the people put faith in them it was a different matter. This opened their lives up to spirits working for their master, Satan.

Every person determines their own destiny. There are only two masters – Me or the prince of darkness – and you must serve one or the other. But you are never free to have no master. Man was not created to be independent. Since Adam handed control over to the evil one, once you reach the age of reason, he is your master. But your freewill gives you a choice. A conscious decision to follow Me allows My Spirit to take residence in your life and opens up the way to a personal relationship with Me that is the path to everlasting life. So choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19).
