327 Qualified to Serve

“A voice came from heaven: ‘You are My Son, whom I love; with You I am well pleased’” (Mark 1:11).

Father, you know that my growing understanding of how fully Jesus embraced manhood in His time on earth has opened up so many new insights into the familiar stories in the gospels.

So this was the time the Holy Spirit was given to Him with power – that’s why there is a blank in the Scriptures about His years from the time of His entry into manhood at 12 until He was 30. These words from You were a confirmation to Him as much as a sign to John of who He was and what He would do. An assurance that He was on the right track, that He was indeed the sent one as He had come to believe through His study of the Scriptures.

I understand more now that Jesus lived and moved under the old covenant. He learned a trade as all Jewish boys did, but because of His obvious outstanding intellect and scholarship He would have qualified to continued on through the established religious training of His day which culminated in acceptance as a rabbi (John 13:13, CJB). Thirty years was the time when those trained to be rabbis began their own individual ministry. So, in the manner of the prophets of old, the Spirit came upon Him to empower Him for that ministry.

But now, to be filled and empowered by My Spirit, you do not need to be 30 or fulfil any other condition but to have a heart that is dedicated to honouring Me as Lord. This is the legacy My Son has passed on to you.
