336 Thank You Angels

“Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14)?

I’m wondering, do the angels know the whole plan of God, or are they like us, needing to trust and obey God purely out of love for Him? They brought joyous messages at Christ’s birth (Luke 2:13,14), a lot of our hymns suggest they were ecstatic at His resurrection. I’m sure they were, but did they know it was going to happen? Or like the disciples, were they observing from afar, perhaps grieving, understanding more of the spiritual battle than we do but not knowing the outcome? If they feel joy they can obviously feel grief too. And can they see what is happening on earth anyway, or only their particular area of responsibility?

It isn’t important to know or You would have told us. I’ve just got intrigued thinking about it all. Do they obey You blindly, like by faith, but with the advantage of knowing how wonderful You are personally, following Your instructions for each of them singly without seeing the whole picture? It seems that their initial decision to stay with You rather than to rebel with the enemy has set their course for eternity, as is the case for the rebellious ones. I can’t conceive of another rebellion in heaven, or even one disobedient angel!

Well, perhaps I should do a study on them, but I want to thank You for them. I’m sure one day it will be revealed to me just what an enormous part they played in my own personal journey. I know all the glory is to You, but if they are wired like us where encouragement is a great joy to us, I would like them to know how much they are appreciated and how grateful I am that You provided them to help me along the way and keep me from all sorts of unseen dangers.
