339 Hidden Treasure

“The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that they may be ever seeing and never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven”(Mark 4:11,12). I’m wondering about this quote from Isaiah. It is clear from both Your character and Your Word that You don’t want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). So why would You hide truth from them?

The parable Jesus had just told (Mark 4:3-8) has to do with willingness to receive truth: soft hearts, good soil. Many respond to the good news of salvation. It can always be heard by anyone looking for answers to their questions about life. But the secret things of the kingdom are not common knowledge (Daniel 2:28). My Son talked about the kingdom as a treasure buried in a field, a pearl of great price (Matthew 13:44-46). Pearls are buried deep in the sea; treasure has to be dug out of the soil. They can only be found by searching.

Parables present truth in a simple way that all who want to hear can hear My message to them. Yet from the same parable My Spirit can lead those who are hungry for more to discover pearls of truth and everlasting treasure, even as Jesus did (Mark 4:33,34). Not all will understand the treasures you discover in My Word (1 Corinthians 3:1,2; Matthew 7:6). Each of My children is unique. As you rely on My Spirit He will guide you as to what you share with others.
