352 Marriage – Physical and Spiritual

“A man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Mark 10:8).

Divorce is so prevalent today as You know, Lord. Even among Christians. If we take this literally it must mean divorce can never be Your will. Is that right? It seems so heartless to tell others who are suffering that they should not end their marriage. I just can’t do it.

Is your heart bigger than Mine? My love covers a multitude of sins and it is coupled with wisdom and all knowledge. So My first word to you is don’t judge others. Pray for them, especially if I lay them on your heart and give you any special understanding of their situation. Then remember that Jesus’ words here are a warning. You are accountable before Me if you are party to the breakup of a marriage. This does not only mean inappropriate contact with a married person, it can be done by your words. To encourage anyone to break a covenant is a serious matter. Support and pray for your friends, keep their confidences, but do not give them rash advice. Then trust Me, and My Spirit in them, with the outcome.

Another thing, My Word tells you that the marriage relationship is symbolic of that between My Son and the church (Ephesians 5:32). It is just as serious to break this covenant as that of marriage. So in the same way I call you to be a uniting, rather than a dividing influence among My people (Ephesians 4:3, Romans 12:18). Trust Me to guide you in all you say and do.
