360 Ambassadors for the Lord

“Jesus answered (the Jewish leaders), ‘Is it not written in your law, I have said you are gods?’” (John 10:34).

This is another one of those difficult to understand verses, Lord. How could Jesus apply that quote from the Psalms (82:6) to these men who were opposing Him, denying His deity? Or for that matter, why were those judges of old condemned in the same Psalm?

Don’t you know that your ambassador in a foreign country can say, “I am the Australian government” and be truthful? That authority has been given to him by the government, to truly speak for and represent them in line with Australia’s policies. He can act and speak for Australia as if the government itself was doing it. The judges appointed to represent Me in ancient Israel had this same authority. So did the religious leaders of Jesus’ day. But were they hearing from Me and faithfully teaching their flock? No. If they were they would have recognised My Son and rejoiced to see the One that the prophets had foretold.

But do you realise that you also are a “god” in this sense, as is every believer in whom My Spirit dwells? You are called to represent Me faithfully on earth. You are My ambassador in the place where I have put you, with the authority and power of My Spirit to speak for Me. Take care to remember whose authority it is in which you stand. If an ambassador fails to defer to the Prime Minister of his own country, he will quickly be recalled and lose that authority. Guard against putting self back on the throne of your heart.
