367 Erosion

Lord, story after story recorded in Scripture (Kings and Chronicles) show a king who was good, who did much to restore true worship in Judah, yet we find that many of them let go of their devotion to You in latter years and themselves served false gods, leading their people back into idolatry. This frightens me. Why did this happen? Can it happen to me?

Faith can slowly be eroded when interest in other things increase. It does not happen overnight.

Do not fear this. It isn’t as easy as you might imagine. You are told to remember what I have done for you (Deuteronomy 4:9), to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23), but it must be done while resting in My goodness and love. To seek to do this in fear indicates that it is something you have to do. But I am the one holding you safe in My hand (John 10:28). Nothing can take you away from Me except you. By a deliberate decision you can do so. But even then My Spirit will pursue you, seeking to woo you back to Me.

So guard against this by spending time with Me, daily experiencing My love and joy in your life. Then the things of the world will not draw your heart away from Me (Colossians 3:2).
