369 Life Without the Spirit

“In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph” (Luke 1:26,27). “An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife” (Matthew 1:20).

I can’t help thinking, Lord, that it would be so much easier for us to know Your will and obey if You actually send an angel to us that we could see. “Seeing is believing” we say. I know this was a one off special occasion for people who had a strategic role to play in Your purposes, and I presume that by the way Joseph responded to the news of Mary’s pregnancy that he might have thought she had been raped by a Roman soldier and the experience had affected her mind. But don’t we all have a part to play in Your kingdom plans that is important?

Haven’t you forgotten something? These, My children, did not have My Spirit within them as you have. He is continually imparting My directions to you once you learn to hear His voice and have a heart to obey. Also they could not pick up their Bible and read My words easily. Especially Mary who did not even have the opportunity of education in the Jewish Scriptures that Joseph had.

All My children are equally important to Me, and none lack the opportunities they need to walk in My ways. The only difference is the willingness to hear.
