373 Truth Recovered

“When the king heard the words of the law, he tore his robes” (2 Chronicles 34:19).

Josiah was a godly king. He did all he knew to cleanse his land from idolatry, even more it seems to me than other good kings had done. Yet he still had to repent and weep when Your holy book came to light and revealed Your requirements for Your people. I find this discouraging, Lord. How far away am I from what You require even if I was living up to what You have already revealed to me (Philippians 3:16) which I am not.

This should encourage you, rather than discourage. My Spirit is a wise teacher (John 14:26). He knows what and when you are ready to receive more revelation from Me. This will continue as long as I give you breath. Even the most godly teacher you have been privileged to sit under has not got the whole truth. Human rationalism affects all mankind to some degree, even you! There will always be more to learn as you meditate on My Word and listen to My Spirit.

There is a bigger picture here. The same happened to My covenant people and has continued to happen throughout the history of the church. The Passover had been forgotten for around 400 years (2 Chronicles 35:18), its significance lost. The heart of Josiah was open and seeking Me, and through him I was able to revive this festival which pointed to the One who would fulfil it.

Likewise where truth has been lost over the centuries, it is being restored to the church gradually as she is able to receive it, to prepare her for His soon return. Have you noticed, there has been wave after wave of different aspects of the truth brought back into focus: justification by faith, holiness, social concern, the gifts of the Spirit, My grace, intimacy with Me, understanding of covenant and Israel’s place in My plan to name just a few. So on that glorious day when He comes back for you, He will find a bride prepared and ready to be united with Him.
