375 The Holy Land

“The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the 70 years were completed in fulfilment of the Word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah” (2 Chronicles 36:21, see Jeremiah 25:11). Seventy years, “until the land had paid her Sabbaths” the Complete Jewish Bible translates it.

To me, whether the land has its sabbath rests isn’t very important. So what harm will it do? Yet the years of Your people’s captivity in Babylon was determined by just that thing. I don’t understand this. Was it not the people You cared about, not the land?

This land I call My land (2 Chronicles 7:20). I chose it as the home for My people, the children of My faithful servant Abraham. I chose it as the place where I tabernacled with them. I chose it to be a venue of My redemptive purposes for all mankind. I chose it as the earthly home of My Son. I have chosen it as the place where My kingdom will finally be set up on earth.

For millennia it has been drenched with the atoning blood that gives life to mankind. There is no patch of land on earth more sacred than this. This is why the enemy has incited so much hatred against it.
