378 Words of Love

“Then a teacher of the law came to Him and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go’. Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head’” (Matthew 8:19,20).

What was the problem here, Lord? Was it obvious to Jesus that this man would not be able to cope with the loss of security his position now provided? Or, knowing the difficult path that lay ahead for Him, could He discern that he would leave Him as so many others did (John 6:66)?

We have made this kind of declaration many times. We feel certain we will never walk away from our Saviour. Is this presumption? Is it dangerous to make a promise in case we won’t be able to keep it?

Didn’t Peter do that (Matthew 26:33)? Certainly he did not know his weakness, and neither do you. But that did not spell the end of Peter’s story. He went on to be one of the boldest of the disciples and a leader in the church.

Your words of love are precious to Me even though I might know you cannot live up to them. And I can use even your failures to bring you into an ever deeper relationship with Me. Never be afraid to share your heart with Me. My arms of love are always open to you.
