“This is the message we have heard from (Jesus) and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).

We think of this letter by John as majoring on love, yet here, the very first thing John wants to tell his readers is that You, Lord, are light. Pure light, having no darkness at all, holy. John goes on to stress that true fellowship with You, and even with others, is impossible if we are not also walking in that light (vv6,7). How is it possible, when our heart is so deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9), to have no darkness there at all? Even with the best intentions, we must offend You.

Are you not in covenant with Me? Wasn’t that covenant sealed by sinless blood? That is your covering for all the sin you do not know about, now and forever. It is only when My Spirit reveals something that needs to be changed that repentance and acceptance of forgiveness must take place for you to continue walking with Me.

That must surely be all the time, Lord!

You could not bear it all at once. I know when the time is right: when you will benefit greatly by such a revelation and when you would be crushed by it. So don’t live in any sort of anxiety. In My sight you are always covered by the robe of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10) provided for you at the cross.
