291 Hypocrisy

“Woe to you (Pharisees), because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your forefathers who killed them” (Luke 11:47).

I don’t understand this, Lord. To build a tomb is surely to honour someone, to raise up a memorial to them.

They were saying in their hearts, “If we had been alive then we would not have killed the prophets”, but they killed My Son, proving their hearts were the same as their fathers’. So the building of the tombs was hypocrisy. They had the advantage of the whole Tenach, all that the prophets had taught, yet their hearts were not changed.

Man says now, “If we had been alive then, we would not have crucified Christ”, but the human heart is still the same today, even with the added witness of the New Covenant Scriptures. No man since the fall of Adam can change a sinful heart except by the transforming power of My Spirit.

Guard your heart from hypocrisy. Make sure you honour Me and others with a pure heart.
