298 This is Love

“Samuel said to all the people, ‘Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like (Saul) among all the people.’ Then the people shouted, ‘Long live the king!’” (1 Samuel 10:24).

Why does it surprise me that You react the way You do? Here You are, rejected by Your people and knowing what that rejection will mean for them in the future, yet You gave them a king as they demanded, the best candidate in the kingdom, and equipped him (10:9,10) with all he would need to rule Your people well. How could You give Your very best to those who had hurt You so badly? I know You are love, but I cannot comprehend such love as that.

What you see is what love really is. Go and read the famous love chapter again (1 Corinthians 13)! Love does not react to personal hurt. Love always blesses others. And it is this love that My Spirit has poured into your heart (Romans 5:5). You have it to the measure you have made room for it. As you put Me before yourself, as you grow to trust Me more and more, then your store of divine love will expand. Only then will you demonstrate a true picture of Me to your world.

Besides, you are no different than these, My children of old. Every choice you have made that was based on self interest deeply grieves My heart. But have I withheld anything good from you?
