299 Holding onto Hope

“Is it not wheat harvest now? I will call upon the Lord to send thunder and rain. And you will realise what an evil thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king” (1 Samuel 12:17).

Wow! Father, did You put this into the heart of Samuel? Rain would destroy their harvest, leave them destitute till the next grain harvest at least. It sounds vindictive – and that isn’t the way You are. It has brought home to me again our perilous position. If ever there was a generation who is rejecting You it is ours. John’s revelation from You depicts such awful things to come upon us.

Did you notice the result in Samuel’s day (vv18,19)? No suffering compares with the ultimate fate of those who continue to reject Me. Because of My love I will do anything to turn mankind around. But will your generation respond as Samuel’s did (Luke 18:6-8; Revelation 16:10,11)?

Some will, surely some will, Lord. Give us all courage to endure as Jesus did because of the hope that was within Him (Hebrews 12:2).
