305 Pieces of a Jigsaw

“I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you” (Romans 1:10).

Why is getting guidance such a difficult thing in a Christian’s life, at least it has been in mine. One would think that if we are surrendered to You and wanting Your will above all else, each important door would just open before us but it doesn’t seem to happen that way. There is often a lot of agonising with life changing decisions. It seems Paul had been waiting a long time for the door to Rome to open, though You apparently kept that desire in his heart.

Many things must come together for My will to be done in a person’s life. The main thing may not be what I want you to do for My kingdom; often it is what needs to be done in you. That involves other people and circumstances that also must be factored in like pieces of a jigsaw. That is why it is important to keep your mind subjected to My Spirit as Paul did.

Then did Paul foresee how the desire I put into his heart would be fulfilled? His longing to encourage the saints in Rome came about in an unexpected way, a way they needed as they themselves were to face severe persecution (Acts 25:25). It even got his message into the emperor’s palace!

Yes, Lord, in a less spectacular way You have also guided my life. As a young Christian I never could have foreseen the path I am now treading! You faithfully kept me through the times of uncertainty. Surely we never trust You in vain.
