308 A Joint Effort

“So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God” (Romans 7:4).

The fruit to be in our lives is listed in Scripture of course: love, joy, peace, etc. But I realise that here in this verse, in an illustration about marriage, the fruit referred to appears to be spiritual children. You know the many years I carried guilt because I have never lead anyone to Christ that I am sure about. Remember how I used to knock on doors, approach people with “The Four Spiritual Laws”! All to no avail. You have given me peace about this now, assuring me that my gifting lies in another direction and anything I try to do in the flesh will have no success anyway. But this verse has got me wondering again.

Things work differently in the Spirit than in the flesh. You are seen not only as an individual but also as part of a body. In the natural different parts of the body work together to bring about birth: there is seed, nurturing, labour and a whole lot of other unseen things. Somewhere along that line your gifts fit in, and without them a new child of Mine would not be born, or could be deformed in some way. See how important it is to keep in close and loving fellowship with your brothers and sisters, and work together under the direction of My Spirit!
