309 Mind Your Mind

“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires” (Romans 8:5).

How does this happen, Lord? My mind does not stay put. It vacillates according to what is happening or how I feel!

Your mind is the door to all you understand. It processes incoming information through the filter of what you believe to be true, whether it really is or not. You are now a new creation, born again with a new nature, but it is still possible to accept and act upon those old patterns etched in your mind. There is no instant delete button. New understanding of the truth has to be reinforced until it replaces the old beliefs (Romans 8:13, 12:2). When you have your mind “set” like concrete on the truth of who you now are as My child, any assault on that conviction will be sent packing. It will immediately be seen to be a lie and will not be allowed to take root. This is the key to living the life of victory that I have provided in a sinful world.

Keep reminding yourself of the truths in My Word – you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), you are righteous and holy (Ephesians 4:24), the evil one cannot touch you (1 John 5:18), and so much more – and soon any ungodly thought will encounter a barricade that it cannot penetrate and you will live out your new convictions, not the old.*
